Del-Tech Manufacturing Inc. is now shipping products overseas via sea container.
CN Rail is the only railroad in North America that has lines spanning the continent Noth-South and East-West. CN has recently finished the construction of an inland, inter-modal container port in Prince George, BC in the fall of 2007. This allows access to sea ports in Prince Rupert, Vancouver and Montreal, as well as inland ports in Edmonton , Winnipeg, and Chicago. CN owns the former Illinois Central line, which ships from Chicago to the Gulf of Mexico. The new inter-modal port in Prince George allows local companies access to global markets through the standardized, inexpensive transportation of goods.
Within weeks of CN finishing the container port, Del-Tech began work on a laminated veneer lumber plant. This equipment has since been loaded into sea containers and shipped via CN’s inter-modal port. Major components of the plant have been constructed at Del-Tech and Nechako Mechanical Ltd., our sister plant in Vanderhoof.
ViTech Engineering Ltd. has contracts for the construction of the plant, located in Torzhok, Russia. ViTech hired Del-Tech and Nechako Mechanical for their manufacturing expertise, knowing that freight costs from BC’s interior to Russia are now no different than costs in any other urban centre in North America. Previous to the construction of the inter-modal port, products would have to be shipped to Vancouver or Edmonton via truck, adding to costs significantly.
Torzhok is located in Eastern Russia, so these particular containers have been shipped to Montreal, where they will be loaded onto ocean liners and taken to ports in Europe. The new port of Prince Rupert, a major factor behind the construction of the inland port in Prince George, allows direct shipping to Asia. Many goods arrive to North America via Prince Rupert already, and it is anticipated that local companies will be able to take advantage of the backhaul of empty containers to distribute goods to markets in Siberia, North and South Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and India.
CN’s hard work and planning has paid off for local business. Del-Tech would like to take this opportunity to thank CN for providing us with new opportunities to reach global markets. Del-Tech would also like to thank ViTech Engineering for the opportunity to work together, and congratulate the citizens of Torzhok Russia who will now benefit from the installation of Canadian manufacturing technology.
Del-Tech looks forward to many more years of continued growth in partnership with CN Rail, and with ViTech Engineering. Canadian expertise and technology in the lumber Manufacturing, OSB, LVL and Wood Waste Management industries has potential markets throughout the world.
