Bone Dry Ton – Heavy industry, such as Pulp & Paper & Biomass Energy, needs a measurement for raw materials with zero percent moisture. A BDT is considered equal to 2,000 pound of biomass. Biomass (wood chips) usually contain upwards of 50% moisture when they arrive at plant sites from saw mills. Basically, every BDT is equal to about two tons of fresh chips.
British Thermal Unit or BTU – Represents the amount of heat that is needed to raise the Fahrenheit temperature of one lb of water by one degree. Thus, a 70,000 BTU thermal oil system running at peak performance could heat 70,000 lbs of water by one degree continuously.
